Hi, I am Mark and for over ten years I have been studying, observing and recording hoverflies, bryophytes and other creatures.
The aim of this blog is to spread the joy and importance of
hoverflies as well as other living species.
Previously I graduated from university with with a BSc
(Hons) in Environmental biology, before a PGCE in teaching which I did for
several years, but for the last 25 years I have been a Business Intelligence
Manager managing a team of senior data analysts.
I am a trustee of the British Naturalist Association (B.N.A) and belong to various other natural history organisations. In 2017 I was recipient of the Richard Fitter medal, for excellence in field skills, also from the BNA.
Over time I will naturally expand into other areas of natural history, particularly bryophytes, no doubt using a little data analysis, a slant towards evolution and ecological systems and a bit of art for illustration.
I started this blog as a place to share my love of hoverflies and to capture the many fascinating stories nature offers. My hope is that through my research and the joy these little superheroes bring me, you’ll discover your own curiosity for them — and perhaps come to love them just as much. ✏️ 📄
If you would like to support Easily Distracted by hoverflies, please consider subscribing, join the conversation and explore the natural world with me...... 😊
…. I thank you in advance for taking the time to look at this blog and hope you enjoyed it.
Mark
